2016 PIF Frequently Asked Questions

Our 15th Year!
It all started in Jill and Eric Wolford’s backyard 15 years ago with a BBQ, red bucket, and generous group of individuals. The Wolfords asked for partygoers to contribute how much they would pay for a burger and place it into a red bucket. The funds collected, $724, were given anonymously to LuAnne Goodwin, a single mother with terminal breast cancer, to help pay for medications and other living expenses. LuAnne’s courage and perseverance sparked the creation of the Caring Community Foundation and the continuation of the annual Pay it Forward Party.

Where is Pay It Forward going to be this year?
Pay it Forward will be hosted at NOAH’S, a new event space in Morrisville, NC (5180 Paramount Parkway, Morrisville, NC 27560) right off NC-54 and close to NC-540. NOAH’S is directly across the street from the Lenovo offices. There will be plenty of signage available to direct you to the entrance of the event.

What time does the Pay It Forward Fundraising Party start?
The Pay it Forward Fundraising Party will start at 6:30 pm. and end at 11:30 p.m. this year. If you choose to purchase a ticket to the Pre-Event, the champagne reception will start at 6:00 p.m. The program begins roughly around 8:00 p.m. and will go until 9:30 PM and includes words from our Guest Speaker along with the outstanding entertainment from our Auctioneer, Ben Farrell.

Is there live music at this year’s event?
Yes, The Retros will be performing at this year’s event. Don "Minnesota Soul" Kellerman, "Drummin" Dave Wilson, Mike "The Edge" Cashion, Steve "Smooth Operator" Grogan, and Eric "Lowboy" Wolford, will reunite to perform your favorite garage band classic rock songs.

What should I wear?
The dress code for Pay it Forward is Backyard to Bowties. Wear your finest pair of blue jeans or your favorite cocktail dress. We want you to feel comfortable and enjoy yourself in whatever you decide to wear.

Where do I park? Is there free parking?
NOAH’S has its own private parking lot with plenty of available parking. If you are staying at the Hyatt House down the street, you may park your car there and shuttle to the event.

Are there hotel rooms blocked for the CCF?  What is the cost? How do I book a room?
Book your room at the Hyatt House following the Pay it Forward fundraising event at a special rate of $89 (studio) and $99 (double) by clicking HERE When making a reservation, enter September 10th as the check-in date and the Group Code will populate in the reservation box.

What is the difference between a Pre-Event Ticket and an Event Ticket? 
The Pre-Event Ticket allows you to enter the event early, bypass the busy check-in area, enjoy a champagne reception and interact with The Caring Community Foundation’s Founders and Board members. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS

When do online ticket sales end?
Online ticket sales will end on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. Event tickets will be available for purchase at the door for $100 instead of $75. Make sure you purchase tickets in advance! CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS

Do volunteers have to pay to get into the event?
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year so we encourage all to donate by buying a PIF ticket at $75 each. However, if you are volunteering for only an hour or two and will not be participating in the food and drink there is no cost to be a volunteer.

Are drinks included in my ticket price?  What type of drinks will be provided? 
You can enjoy wine, beer, and nonalcoholic beverages.  All drinks are included in the price of your ticket. CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS  

Is there a service fee associated with ticket purchases?
Yes, there is a service fee associated with event ticket purchases made through BidPal along with standard 2.5% credit card processing fee. If you have any further questions, please contact Hannah Earnhardt at hannah@caringcommunityfoundation.org

Will dinner be provided?
Dinner will not be served in a seated format; however, there is seating available to enjoy hors d’oeuvres and food from our buffet. Although the food provided is plentiful, it may not take place of a full meal. 

What’s NEW this year? Mobile Bidding!
We are excited to announce that we will be using BidPal for this year’s Silent Auction and ticket sales. You can place bids on silent auction items from the luxury of your phone/tablet while engaging in the program of the event. You can even set max bid limits and the program will bid on your behalf up to the desired amount when you are outbid. If individuals are unable to attend the event, they can still participate in the online silent auction through the use of their phones/tablets. The program is compatible with all phone carriers. Don’t forget to bring your charged phone with you! *Standard carrier data charges apply*

What if I need help with mobile bidding?
There will be trained volunteers and BidPal staff available onsite to answer any questions you may have and to assist with any troubleshooting concerns. When checking into the event, there will be someone there to ensure you are registered correctly.

Silent Auction!
The Silent Auction will be available for viewing and mobile bidding 48 hours prior to Pay it Forward on Thursday, September 8th. Check out a preview of the Silent Auction items HERE on the Caring Community Foundation website

Can I use donor advised funds for the open bid?
Yes, you can use donor advised funds for the open bid. Please make sure you notify staff at check-out that you will be using donor advised funds for open bid payment. For more information regarding donor advised funds, please email donations@caringcommunityfoundation.org

Is the Bling Ring Raffle coming back this year?
Yes, the Caring Community Foundation is excited to work with Diamonds Direct Crabtree for the Bling Ring Raffle again this year. Pay it Forward participants can join in on the fun by purchasing Bling Rings for the opportunity to win a stunning piece of jewelry. Make sure you decorate all of your fingers in flashy rings for an old school game of heads or tails. Our auctioneer, Ben Farrell, will call out heads or tails with the flip of a coin. If you choose incorrectly you will be asked to take off one of your rings. The last person left with their Bling Ring flashing is the winner. It’s that simple!   

How much are the Bling Rings and where can I purchase them?
Bling Rings are sold at special rate for $25 a ring online. At the event, the Bling Rings will be sold for $30 a ring or $50 for two rings. There is a limited quantity of Bling Rings, so purchase yours ASAP! CLICK HERE TO PURCHASE YOUR BLING RINGS

I have something to donate, what do I need to do? 
We welcome any and all donations, but we ask that items be in new condition. You may contact Doug Hardy, Acquisitions Chair at dhardy@nc.rr.com or Robin Foster, Pay it Forward Event Chair at dazlace@nc.rr.com to answer questions or to arrange pick up or delivery of your item(s).

How Do We Help?

Cancer patients in need are referred to us through our network of area hospitals and clinics.  Our criteria for offering financial support are simple - patients need to be actively undergoing treatment in an area facility and have significant financial need.  Once a patient has been referred to us, the request is expeditiously reviewed and funds are quickly dispersed.  

Why We Do It

Sadly, cancer affects nearly everyone in some way.  The Caring Community Foundation proudly helps alleviate financial stress and burdens for cancer patients in need so they can focus on treatment and recovery.

Who We Are

The Caring Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) local, non-profit charitable organization that provides financial assistance to cancer patients in and around the Triangle area of North Carolina.  We support basic financial needs by providing assistance with rent, utilities, treatment or other expenses that become difficult to manage during cancer treatment.  The organization was established in 2001 by a local breast cancer survivor who wanted to demonstrate her gratitude for the outpouring of community and family support she received during her own treatment.  The organization's "Pay-It-Forward" philosophy drives our mission and impacts everything we do.
